Geneva's Branch

Geneva Coggs Haywood was born on April 30th, 1934 along with her twin sister Beneva. They were educated in the Jim Crow segregated schools of Tallulah, LA. After graduating from high school, they moved to Cleveland, OH to find their first “real” jobs. They worked at a candy factory while they saved their money and sent some home to assist the family household with the younger children still at home. After about a year, the decided to move to Chicago, IL, where their older brother John had settled. Geneva later went to nursing school and became Licensed Practical Nurse. She remained in the Health Care industry for the rest of her career.

Geneva married Artis Haywood in 1959 in Chicago, IL. To this union, 3 children were born:  Artis Jr., Angela and Adrienne.

Geneva purchased her home in Markham, IL and raised her children. She enjoyed travelling, cooking, spending time with her siblings, children and grandchildren. She remained in the area until her death in 2010.
